The story starts when a group of workers blasting some parts of Black River Mountain in West Virginia, which related or not, but at the same time a major earthquake is tearing the whole area down causing major destruction. Dr. Amy Lane (Brittany Murphy) says that the earthquake would go on to rupture indefinitely and tear across the whole of United States. What follow are destruction along its path with earthquake aftershocks and power losses all around the Midwest. Dr. Lane is on hands to prevent further damage and death toll. But her mind is split between saving people's lives and the life of her own husband and daughter who are currently flying blind because the Indianapolis air tower has been destroyed. Lucky for Dr. Lane, one survivor of Black River mountain earthquake, Boomer (Eriq La Salle) is determined to help Dr. Lane for saving his life and will accompany her along the way. It's not going to be easy for them, since this earthquake is heading to Yosemite National Park, the home of a super volcano. And now, with the help of the government officials can these two friends prevent further disaster?
