Once Upon a Time In ChinaLocals are concerned with the growing influence and presence of westerners and foreigners in Foshan. The general of the Black Flag Army approaches Wong Fei Hung and requests that Wong helps him recruit and train a local militia of civilian martial artists to help defend the town. Among those recruited by Wong include the butcher "Porky" Wing and an American-educated Chinese called "Bucktooth" So.
Wong Fei Hung meets Siu-qun, who is around the same age as him, and whom he addresses respectfully as "13th Aunt". Although they are not direct blood relations, her father was a sworn brother of Wong's grandfather and that technically makes her Wong's senior. Romantic feelings between them gradually develop but it is considered to be taboo in traditional Chinese society and their relationship is often restrained.
Leung Foon arrives in town with a Chinese opera troupe to stage performances. He runs into some trouble with the Shaho Gang, which terrorises local businesses by demanding "protection money" from them. He accidentally runs into 13th Aunt and falls in love with her. After being fired from the opera troupe, Leung meets a martial artist called "Iron Robe" Yim and becomes Yim's student. Yim wants to make his name and establish a martial arts school in Foshan, but he knows that he must defeat Wong Fei Hung, the most powerful and famous martial artist in Foshan in order to achieve that.
The Shaho Gang kidnaps 13th Aunt while she was helping an escaped labourer from America to flee from the local government's inspection. Wong Fei Hung and his followers have also been placed under arrest by the governor for hitting government soldiers while buying time for 13th Aunt and the labourer to escape. The prison guards release Wong and his men out of respect for him as they know that he had been wronged.
Wong Fei Hung and his followers disguise themselves and infiltrate the Americans' base. They engage in a battle with the Americans and Shaho Gang and emerged victorious. Wong faces Yim and defeats Yim in a fight. Yim is later killed by gunfire from the Americans, who were actually targeting Wong.

Once Upon a Time in China II (1992)
In 1895 during the late Qing Dynasty, Wong Fei Hung travels by train to Canton to attend a seminar on Western and traditional Chinese medicine. He is accompanied by his romantic interest "13th Aunt" Siu-Kwan and disciple Leung Foon. He gives a lecture during the seminar on the benefits of acupuncture while a fellow Chinese doctor helps him translate for the predominantly Caucasian audience.The seminar is disrupted by members of the fanatical White Lotus Society, an extreme nationalist cult led by the sinister and seemingly invincible Priest Kung. Sun Man and another fellow rebel named Luke Ho Tung are planning to travel to Hong Kong to continue with their plans for revolution.
Wong decides to help Sun and the rebels in their plan, but they encounter an official of the Manchu imperial government called General Nap Lan who stands in their way. Further chaos ensued when the cult attack a foreign-language school for children. Siu Kwan brings the children to hide in the British Consulate.
Nap Lan enters the Consulate in the name of protecting the foreigners from the "cult members" while taking the opportunity to search for Luke. Luke disguises himself as Leung and follows Wong out of the Consulate safely. Meanwhile, Leung disguises himself as Luke to lure Nap Lan away. To put an end to the cult's evil activities, Wong and Luke travel to the cult's headquarters to confront Priest Kung. After an intense battle, Wong defeats Kung and the cult is disbanded.
Wong, Luke and Leung proceed to retrieve the hidden contact name list of the rebels. They encounter Nap Lan and his soldiers. Luke is killed by gunfire. In the final scenes of the film, Wong Fei Hung and Nap Lan have a dramatic showdown dubbed as "the greatest fight of Jet Li on screen".

Once Upon a Time in China III (1993)
The Qing Dynasty is experiencing turmoil in its later years as foreigners start to take over and ruin the Manchu sovereignty. To restore China's pride and show foreigners the might of Chinese martial arts, the Empress Dowager and Governor Lee Hung Cheung decide to stage a national Lion King Competition. All lion dancers and martial artists from around the nation are invited to attend and participate in the competition and win the title of "Lion King".
Wong Fei Hung, his romantic interest "13th Aunt" Siu-qun and his disciple Leung Foon arrive in Peking to visit Wong's father Wong Kei-Ying at the Cantonese Association. At the train station, they meet a Russian diplomat named Tomanovsky, who knew Siu Kwan while they were studying in Britain. He starts to vie for her attention and annoys Wong, who is disgusted by the Western custom of kissing a woman's hand. When the trio arrive at the Association, they discover that Wong Kei Ying had been attacked by a wealthy rival martial artist named Chiu Tin Bak and his lackey Club Foot. Luckily, Wong only suffered minor injuries from the attack. Wong decides to give his blessings to his son and Siu-qun as they develop closer relationships.
Prior to the actual competition, the lion dance troupes which had gathered in the city started to fight among themselves and hold a competition of their own before the actual one. Wong Fei Hung does not participate and spectates. Unknown to him, Leung Foon and another disciple had secretly joined the competition out of mischief. They annoy Club Foot and a short scrimmage between Club Foot and Leung ensues. Club Foot's legs are seriously injured when Leung accidentally releases a rampage of horses, which crushed Club Foot's legs with their hoofs. Club Foot is abandoned by Chiu, who sees him as useless now without the use of his legs. Wong Fei Hung takes pity on Club Foot and takes him in. Club Foot initially saw Wong as a rival and treated him with hostility, but Wong's kindness touched him and he eventually became Wong's loyal disciple.
With the help of a movie camera, a gift to her from Tomanovsky, Siu-qun inadvertently uncovers an assassination plot on Governor Lee and Tomanovsky is one of the parties involved. She warns Wong Fei Hung and Wong decides to join the competition, which will be taking place at the Forbidden City, to foil the assassination attempt. At the final round of the competition, Wong, together with Leung Foon and Club Foot, faces hundreds of rival lion dancers and they battle their way through to reach the top of a scaffold. Chiu Tin Bak also participates with the largest and deadliest lion mask ever and he fights with Wong for the prize, a gold medal.
Eventually, Wong defeats Chiu and obtains the gold medal. Meanwhile, Tomanovsky fails to assassinate Governor Lee and is shot dead by his fellow Russians. Wong refuses to accept the gold medal, claiming that the victory was a Pyrrhic victory and the competition has failed to achieve its aim. He adds that the competition merely leads to more death and injury to the Chinese, and in order to restore national pride, every Chinese must play a part. He tosses the gold medal back to Governor Lee, which lands at the Governor's feet, and then walks away as the film ends.

Once Upon a Time in China IV (1993)
Wong Fei-Hong (Zhao Wen-Zhou), Leung Fu (Max Mok), Club Foot (Xiong Xin-Xin) and dad Wong Kei-Ying (Lau Shun) run afoul of separate factions all trying to take advantage of China's domestic disputes. The players include the Red Lantern Society (yet another group that wants foreigners out) and evil Germans bent on taking over China. Also, they meet up with Aunt May (Jean Wong), who subs for Aunt Yee (the missing Rosamund Kwan) as the love interest/scenery. Then someone looks at someone else incorrectly and fighting ensues.

Once Upon a Time in China and America (1997)
The story is set in both Hong Kong and the U.S. So goes to the U.S. to open a martial arts school. Around this time, many Chinese people were sold off to U.S. railroad companies, and were brutally treated by the Americans under the harsh working conditions. Thus, the American workers' hatred towards the Chinese immigrants is high. As a result, So gets into trouble with the Americans and the mob, and calls Master Wong for help.
