Sammy's Adventure: The Secret Passage (2010) DVD R5

It started with a fifty-year old Green Sea Turtle, Sammy, waiting at the beach for his grandchildren to hatch. While waiting, he took us back down memory lane to the day he himself first hatched. He did not started out quite so well. Sammy was the last one of his brothers and sisters to hatch from the nest and he was having trouble climbing out of it (I wonder how the little turtles know their names since their parents were not there to give them one). When he was finally out, he was snatched by a seabird. Lucky for him, that seabird collided with another seabird, also holding a hatchling in it's beak. Both Sammy and the other hatchling, which he later found out was named Shelly escaped the seabirds because of this. Shelly wanted to help Sammy because he was left weakened from the seabird attack. However, a rising tide swept her away before she managed to do so.

Sammy's sea adventure started off when the raft he landed on was washed by the tide into the ocean. When he was one day old, he met Ray, a Leatherback turtle who became his best friend ever since. Ray is a laid-back sea turtle who taught Sammy to have fun, and that was how they spent their first 10 years. They had a lot of fun in those 10 years, never knowing the dangers of the ocean. Their first encounter of how humans can affect the lives of marine creatures happened when an oil-carrying ship crashed and all the oil went into the sea. Poor Sammy and Ray had wondered what had they done to deserve this treatment from the humans.

One day, Sammy and Ray were both captured by different fishing nets and they were separated. Sammy almost dried out when he was left on the deck for the whole day. The fishermen dumped him back into the sea and then he was saved by a hippie named Snow. It was with her that Sammy had heard of the story Around the World in 80 Days, so he hoped he will be able to see the world too. Snow had been really nice and cared for her, although her cat never liked it that Sammy took away her attention. Finally, he managed to trick Sammy into hiding and made Snow abandon him. Sammy had some help from a friend and that was when he met Shelly again.

Sammy expressed his ambition to see the world, to go through a "secret passage" where the water is sweet and they can reach the "ice ocean". Along the way, they met with many adventures, but Sammy and Shelly got separated. Sammy tried to find her, finding information about her from all those other marine animals he met. Apparently, Shelly decided to go through their plan and find the "ice ocean", which was why Sammy finally followed her to the Antartic sea. They were both saved by environmentalists, which were pondering on why 2 sea turtles came all the way to the Antartic to freeze their shells off (they must have been weirded out and predicted a whole bunch of reasons for the weird migration of sea turtles).
Finally, he managed to find Shelly and they got to be together. He even met back with Ray after all these years, which had already found his mate. For a little hatchling with such a bad start, it was a miracle he ended up so well 50 years later. He had already seen the world and now he's on the beach where he was born, giving a hand (or flipper) to his little grandkids when they needed one to help them start off. This is how we ended up with another title - Around the World in 50 Years.
